15th WORLD CONGRESS OF CRYOSURGERY
St. Petersburg, Russia 1-4 October 2009

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT – 23rd September, 2009
Dear Friends of ISC,
It will be a great honour for me to greet each of you at the next ISC Congress that will take place in St. Petersburg from October 1st to October 4th, 2009. Prof. Gueorgui Prokhorov, President of the meeting who will be our host in his dazzling home town, is organizing the event so that we may all be welcomed in the most appropriate manner.
Right from its origin the World Congress of Cryosurgery has represented the preeminent chance for face-to-face contacts, open debates, as well as scientific and technological updates in the field. In recent years thanks to technological improvements that allow its employment with ever less invasive methods, cryosurgery has been enriched by new areas of applicability. Beijing 2007 gave momentum to the impulse to connect cryosurgery with immunology and throughout the world it is bearing the fruit of promising clinical applications.
The XIV WCC has been a great success for other reasons as well: not only did it outline the world-wide state of the art in cryosurgery, but it offered a unique opportunity to people of proven expertise to meet their peers. Whether the rendezvous occurred during the challenging congress sessions or within the frame of social gatherings, they have been precious seeds out of which international cooperation is growing and growing an unquestionable benefit to cryosurgery globally.
It is therefore my whole-hearted wish to see you attend our next congress in even greater numbers: I am sure that the warm and friendly atmosphere of the noble city that will give us hospitality will enhance this stimulating possibility to meet and compare notes again.
I am expecting you at the XV World Congress of Cryosurgery in St. Petersburg!
Franco Lugnani , MD
President of ISC
Professor Gueorgui Prokhorov
Chairman of the organizing committee of the
15th World Congress of the Intenational Society of Cryosurgery
It is by now a “tradition within the tradition” that our congresses take place in the world’s greatest cities of art and culture.
St.-Petersburg with its beautiful urban architecture, famous museums and theatres as well as its impressive history certainly deserves such a definition. Therefore you will not regret your decision to either anticipate your arrival before, or postpone your departure after, the congress. The acquaintance with the city’s spectacular views, rich palaces and artistic treasures will overwhelm even the most seasoned travelers among you as much as a stroll in one of its extensive leisure parks or a performance in one of its renowned concert or ballet halls.
October paints St. Petersburg from which the major flow of tourists has disappeared with wonderful autumn colors; at this time of year temperatures usually range between 12 and 20°C and the weather is changeable. A raincoat, warm sweater, sturdy shoes and an umbrella will be the protection you need.
Credit cards are accepted in all the larger shops, whereas small sums of cash in rubles may be handy if you visit the smaller ones. Street vendors willingly accept European currency.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During the congress the organizing committee phone number +7 921 5555645 and my own +7 921 8820309 will work around the clock. Congress sessions will be held in 4-star hotel "Angleterre" where 150 accommodations for congress participants have been reserved.
Quotation for accommodation in adjoining 5-star hotel “Astoria” can be obtained on request.
Our representatives will be on duty at airports and railway stations to meet you and show you to your destination. You will greatly oblige us by informing us of date and time of your arrival.
So: welcome to St.-Petersburg!
Professor Gueorgui Prokhorov
Meeting President XV WCC

Dear colleagues!
It’s a great pleasure indeed, that on behalf of the International Society of Cryosurgery I may bid a hearty welcome to the creation of the "International Institute for Cryomedicine" in St.-Petersburg.
We all know St-Petersburg as one of the world’s exceptional cultural cities. In this exquisite location next October we are holding the 15th World Congress of the International Society of Cryosurgery and Professor Gueorgui Prokhorov is named as its President.
I wish the "International Institute for Cryomedicine" a brilliant achievement in preparing experts in the field of cryomedicine and in fostering the use of modern technologies in medical practice in Russia.
We are open to any cooperation, cherish our personal contacts and are ready to work together.
All the best,

ABOUT THE SOCIETY
The International Society of Cryosurgery (I.S.C.) has commenced its activity in 1974 to promote lasting medical education in the field of cryosurgery, from both an experimental and a clinical point of view.
The overall aim of the I.S.C. is to continue developing and expanding the use of cryosurgery around the world.
The society has its headquarters in via Fabio Severo 3, 34133 Trieste, Italy.
The society corresponds with members world-wide.
Membership is open to anyone who has a professional interest in research and education in the fields of cryosurgery, cryobiology, cryopreservation, and other disciplines related to the use of low temperatures in medicine.
A major world congress with a wide-ranging scientific programme covering all areas of cryosurgery and cryobiology is held every second year (autumn) in a different continent.
The society also grants special awards to young researchers for significant scientific achievements.
